tourism of Navarra The days are getting shorter and the landscapes of Navarra are tinged with a melancholic and strangely fascinating air. The December long weekend is a good excuse to get closer to its strong gastronomy, its ancient history and traditions, a rich landscape in which there are deserts (Bardenas Reales) and high mountains (Pyrenees) just 70 kilometers away, all in an area of barely 10,000 square kilometers. The end of autumn and the proximity of winter invites us to reflect, to stop for a bit in the middle of daily chores; to forget, even for a few days, what the clock says. In Navarra we can experience a leisurely and more sustainable tourism , committed to local products (and producers), and delve into a culture that is as ancient as it is welcoming. We have prepared a list with exclusive plans to fill five days of getaway this December long weekend , which you can order as best suits you.
Rural houses in Navarra Day 1: Discover the Navarrese Pyrenees Pyrenees of Navarra By: Javier Campos – Navarra Tourism Let's start strong! We are going to prepare our backpack and mountain boots because we are entering the wildest nature of Navarra: the Pyrenees. It extends from the gentle slopes of the Quinto Real Forests to the high mountain Cell Phone Number List peaks, among which La Mesa de los Tres Reyes stands out , which with its 2,444 meters is the roof of Navarra. There are enclaves of great natural interest such as the Belabarze Waterfall, the Roncal Valley or a route through the moving natural reserve of the Foz de Lumbier . Other destinations that will enchant us in autumn with their great variety of shades of red, ochre, yellow, green and brown are the Irati Forest or the fields of Sorogain . You will find traces of the past in prehistoric caves, dolmens and cromlechs on the peaks of Adi, Ibañeta or Azpegi. You cannot stop walking, aimlessly and without haste, through charming towns such as Ochagavía, Isaba or Orreaga/Roncesvalles . You will hardly be able to see everything in one day, so you will have to choose one of these destinations or spend more than one night in the fascinating north of Navarra.
Day 2: The Baztan Valley and the Zugarramurdi Witches Zugarramurdi Cave By: Francis Vaquero – Navarra Tourism We enter the Baztan Valley to let ourselves be carried away by totally idyllic landscapes, where green slopes, beautiful hamlets, friendly people and deep-rooted traditions predominate. At the end of autumn, the chimneys will already be working, emanating that pleasant and welcoming smell so characteristic of the towns in the area. It is worth visiting some such as Elizondo , the capital of Baztan, as well as Amaiur , Irurita or Ziga . Leaving the Baztan Valley , but a short distance away, we can approach the mysterious town of Zugarramurdi , known because it is where the most famous case in the history of witchcraft in Spain took place, which was harshly punished by the Spanish Inquisition. We can discover who these women really were, what they did and what consequences it had in a society with a lot of moral repression in the Witch Museum and end up walking through the impressive caves that are just 500 meters from the urban center.
